Hospital Philosophy

The congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph of Annecy was founded in 1650 at Le Puy in France in response to the needs of society at that time. Since then, Sisters have devoted their lives to providing education and health care in various countries of the world, irrespective of race or creed. The core of the Sisters’ lives and work is the service of those who are suffering in mind, body and heart. They aim to bring to their healthcare services understanding, compassion and love that include but go beyond professional competence.

The Sisters aim to be a sign of Christ’s presence in all their dealings with patients and their families, staff, volunteers and visitors. Their professional care, warmth, friendliness and the sharing of joys and sorrows help to make each hospital and hospice a place where hearts can be lightened, work enjoyed, happiness shared and health restored. The care provided by the Sisters and other staff and the ethos of the hospital are formed and shaped by the traditions, principles and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The values on which their clinical care are based include a profound respect for human life and for each individual person irrespective of colour, race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental disabilities.
