Hip Replacement

A hip replacement operation replaces a hip joint with an artificial version. The hip joint is a ball-and-socket and can become worn and damaged by injury or by diseases such as osteoarthritis or bone diseases.

The procedure involves replacement of the natural socket and the rounded ball found at the top of the thigh bone. Both are replaced by artificial parts.
