Convalescence

Convalescent care is the bridge between hospital and home.  When patients are discharged from hospital they are not always well enough to look after themselves at home, even though they are "well" enough to leave the acute hospital setting.

Coming home after spending time in hospital can be stressful, patients can feel tired and weak, and generally do not feel up to carrying out the day-to-day tasks of everyday living like cooking, cleaning and the laundry.

Convalescent care helps those recovering from a debilitating illness or surgery to build up their strength slowly, giving their body time to recuperate through rest, a good diet and for those who have had surgery, close monitoring of wound healing and in some cases physiotherapy to assist mobility.
